The Suit Up Program of SICP, Inc. held a Donation Drive & Open House on Jan 10, 2013 at the Total Drama Studios, New Dorp which garnered over 100 items from suits, business casual to shoes. Many of these items were put to immediate use only a few days later, fitting 9 men and women with an assortment of business clothing. All recipients were victims of Hurricane Sandy an/or unemployed Staten Islanders.
Joanna Tierno, of Midland beach, lost her wardrobe when her house experienced flooding and was provided an assortment of items to rebuild her wardrobe.
One couple, both teachers, stated that rebuilding one’s work wardrobe along with their home in Tottenville, was another financial burden and thanked our volunteers and donors for this service.
One program recipient of Suit Up is Faith, who attended the Open house event after reading about the services in the S.I.Advance. She is unemployed and impacted by Hurricane sandy, she is residing at the Hilton Garden Inn. She immediately received a suit for interviewing and scheduled for a personal fitting appointment.
Our next Open House/Donation Drive will be on Thursday, Feb 7th from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Total Drama, 322 New Dorp Lane, 2nd fl.
Also a Career Workshop will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 on Feb 7th,for unemployed men and women. Job seeking tips and resume help will be provided free of charge, with proof of unemployment and/or FEMA #.
A donation of $10.00 is requested for Open House guests and includes a Skinny Cocktail and Heart healthy berry platter for Heart Awareness Month.
